Even with over 15 years of experience, our renovation company is unable to predict what we will find behind the walls of a tub or a shower. One thing is for sure, initial quality in construction goes a long way when waterproofing fails. This home was built in 1969 and we just puled out the original tub and walls due to leak, surface mold and some tiles actually started to fall off the wall. Properly placed poly behind the drywall stopped moisture from entering the studs and insulation. We did replace the insulation but only for energy efficiency purposes. Another interesting fact here to notice is the 3x6 subway tile. We had done many bathrooms with this tile, certainly a timeless classic, but it had seemingly disappeared for the last few years. Now, that white is back in a huge way, so is the classic subway. Inexpensive and great looking and readily available makes this a great and again popular choice of customers for thier bathroom renovation.
